Porn History

The current pornographic industry begun to develop in the 18th century during the enlightenment. It is believed that the advancement of printing technology propelled the production of written and visual material. Paris, France is noted as one of the places that spread the enjoyment of pornographic material as they portrayed erotic and sexual art.

Fun fact: the origin of French Postcards.

Sexual intercourse and images of married couples have been depicted as early as the 17th century. And of course you have your erotic storytelling present in ancient Greece history. These are the starting stages of the sexual liberation movement.

Pornography today as we know it is far removed from a form of art. In a literal annotation of the word pornography: Greek porni~ prostitute and Greek graphein~ to write. The original intent of pornography was to vividly illustrate the life of a prostitute.

We can not be sure of the manner that content was consumed, but we know that today's content is consumed in an overzealous and sexually explicit way. However, we can assume that material was in fact, intended for a mature audience.

  1. It doesn’t surprise me. There is this cliche of sex and how each generation is worst than others. But I think standards change alone the way so knowing the history is good.
